Precast piles

MOJO solar project

A new pile solution for photovoltaic carports in the Netherlands

Piling rig installing Centrum piles on the solar field in Flevoland.

For the MOJO solar project in the Dutch province of Flevoland, Aarsleff Grundbau GmbH delivered a new kind of foundation solution in 2021: around 2,800 purpose developed Centrum piles act as load bearing foundations and as mounting bases for a photovoltaic carport system at once.

The task

The ground consists of silt, fine sand and fine to medium sand. The piles had to carry high horizontal and bending loads from the carport system while staying short enough to remain economical.

Design

Sizing the piles, short lengths with a widened head and integrated M36 threaded bolts, took the high horizontal and bending loads into account and was optimised with the calculation core of piledesigner.io.
